Ireland’s newest regional airline Emerald Airlines added its seventh of twelve ATR72-600 units to its growing fleet as EI-FSK ATR72-212A(600) msn 1326 was delivered Toulouse (TLS)to Dublin (DUB) on 14th April in full Aer Lingus colours as ‘EAI72P’ arriving 1710 local.
The aircraft entered revenue service next day 15th April from Dublin (DUB) to Glasgow (GLA) as EAI2GL/EAI21GQ.
According to Planespotters.net the aircraft was formerly registered as OY-YDT to Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC).
In a keynote address at the joint Dublin Aviation Drinks and SILC event in Westin Hotel on 31st March Emerald Airlines board member John Higgins, former President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon stated the carrier plans to operate a fleet of 12 ATR72-600 aircraft and 2 AOC’s Ireland and UK operating a total of 18 routes by July.
The ATR72-600 is a highly efficient aircraft , as can burn up to 40% less fuel and emit up to 40% less CO2 , relatively close to those of a car. The seat and trip costs on ATR 72-600s are also 10% and 20% lower than those of other in-production turboprops, with fuel consumption estimated at 0.026/seat km.
