Faroe Islands new cargo airline, FarCargo commenced operating a series of flights from Vágar airport to Dublin effective 13 May using SE-RLE Boeing 757-223(PCF) msn 32379.
This aircraft was formerly operated by American Airlines as N185AN prior to freighter conversion. The aircraft operates to up to maximum payload 35 Tons (75,000 lbs) or 230 cubic meters of cargo.
FarCargo has made an agreement with West Atlantic to operate the aircraft under its AOC, on behalf of FarCargo, until FarCargo is able to obtain an AOC. The carrier will use a share of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) in its operation.
This aircraft carries small “Bakkafrost” lettering below the crew entrance door, this being the name of the Faroese fish-processing company that has set up FarCargo.
Bakkafrost CEO Regin Jacobsen said “This is a new chapter in Faroese trade history. We are now able to deliver fresh high-quality salmon both to the USA and other remote markets only a mere day after the fish swims in Faroese fjords. We believe this will significantly strengthen our competitiveness. we will now be able to provide our customers with the freshest product on the market. For many years, we have aimed to make progress in the American market, and along with our US processing plant in New Jersey, this initiative will provide us with the opportunity to provide the customers with the best service possible. This new route will ensure prolonged shelf-life due to shortened transportation and an unbroken cooling chain.”
