Aer Lingus as dual sponsor and official airline of Ireland’s Olympic Team flew home Team Ireland from London Heathrow yesterday afternoon (Monday 13th August) on EIN159 operated by EI-CPG Airbus A321-211 touching down at Dublin Airport 1354 local slightly behind schedule after a very successful two weeks at London 2012.

As ‘Shamrock 159’ was passed from each Dublin ATC Sector as it began it’s descent into Dublin Airport
the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) controllers passed on their congratulations to Team Ireland. On vacating runway 28 the aircraft was meet by Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) airport police & fire service escort to it’s parking stand on Terminal 2.

The athletes including medal winners Katie Taylor, John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlon and Cian O’Connor were greeted at the aircraft door by the Aer Lingus CEO Christoph Muller before being greeted by dignitaries before proceeding to a temporary press centre in Terminal 2 where they meet families and friends for a reception ahead of an official press briefing chaired by Siobhan Moore of the Dublin Airport Authority.


The Aer Lingus CEO Christoph Mueller stated  “We are incredibly proud to welcome the Irish Olympic Team on board the special Aer Lingus homecoming flight. On behalf of all the staff at Aer Lingus, I would like to take this opportunity to offer our congratulations to Team Ireland on their success in the London Olympic Games”
