Isavia ANS, whom manages air traffic in the Icelandic control area recently hosted AirNav Ireland at Iceland Radio, Isavia ANS’s Communication Center in Gufunes. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for productive discussions about ongoing and future cooperation with the Ballygirreen Radio station.

During the meetings, the parties explored key topics, including collaboration strategies, the systems and services we provide to aircraft, and the resilience and mutual support between our stations.
Over the North Atlantic Secure and efficient communication is a critical component of ANS services, and these discussions are essential to maintaining the highest standards for aircraft flying through respective areas.

As Gufunes, Iceland, and Ballygirreen, Ireland, operate as a fully integrated unit, managing communications for their respective regions. Ballygirreen serves the Shanwick Oceanic Control Area, while Gufunes covers the Reykjavík control area.

Air Nav Ireland and Isavia ANS stations rather than managing traffic at the boundaries, collaborate to balance traffic loads, reducing complexity and enhancing service resilience. This integration also allows us to serve as backup stations for one another, eliminating the need for additional infrastructure and ensuring seamless operations.
