Kansas City based carrier Eastern Airlines selected Shannon Airport for the first leg of N771KW Boeing 777-212(ER) msn 28530, FAA ETOPS certification flight. ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) is a set of guidelines and requirements that allows twin-engine aircraft to fly routes that are more than 60 minutes away from the nearest suitable airport.
The aircraft routed direct from its Kansas City base to Shannon 14 November and returned to Kansas City 16 November, as per Flightdata24. According to Eastern Airways Facebooks page, the aircraft will carry out certification flights to PHNL (Honolulu, HI), PGUM (Guam, GU) and PANC (Anchorage, AK) airports.
Planespotters.net data reveals this aircraft has an Irish connection previously registered to Pembroke as EI-FGT between February 2015 and December 2016.
