The first Boeing 787 arrived in Shannon for maintenance with Lufthansa Technik is Virgin Atlantic’s G-VPSY Boeing 787-9 construction number 37973 named ‘Miss Moneypenny’ which arrived on 13 March 2019. Lufthansa Technik announced in July 2017 that it was expanding capabilities for Boeing 787 base maintenance with a €3 million investment.

Lufthansa Technik Shannon CEO Pat Shine said “The Boeing 787 is one of the most technically-advanced airplanes in the sky and we will offer leading-edge, specialist services, minimizing the time that the aircraft is out of service, which is what our customers demand.”

Virgin Atlantic has a fleet of 17 Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Boeing has 1,400 orders for the Boeing 787 with 110 orders added last year and is planning to increase production from 12 to 14 aircraft per month (168 per year)  split between Everett, Washington, and North Charleston, South Carolina.
