The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) announced 1.8 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in September, a 7% increase over the same period last year.Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe rose by 8% with just over 1 million passengers travelling on this route sector in September.
UK traffic recorded a 1% increase with more than 580,000 passengers travelling last month.Transatlantic traffic to North America recorded a 7% increase as more than 178,000 passengers travelled on this route sector in September (Norte Dame Vs Navy NFL Game). Other international passenger traffic, principally flights to the Middle East and North Africa increased by 92% with almost 45,000 passengers travelling to and from these destinations.
Domestic traffic fell by 17% with 6,000 passengers travelling this route sector last month.Year-to-date passenger numbers have increased by 1% with almost 14.8 million passengers travelling through Dublin Airport during the first nine months of the year.
The Irish Aviation Authority announced commercial terminal traffic for Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports increased by +3.5% in September 2012, when compared to September 2011. This growth in international arrivals and departures was largely driven by traffic increases in Dublin Airport (up 5.5%).
This is the second month in a row that the Authority has observed continued growth in this sector of traffic, which is primarily being driven by a significant rise in international arrivals and departures at Dublin Airport.
September 2012 figures for the three State airports, when compared to the same month in the previous year are:
Cork Airport + 0.5%, with an average of 65 commercial daily movements.
Dublin Airport +5.5%, with an average of 468 daily commercial movements (This would be driven by the Norte Dame Vs Navy NFL Game post game traffic on 1st September).
Shannon Airport -7.3%, with an average of 55 commercial daily movements.
There was a decrease of 1.9% in Ireland’s en-route traffic movements (flights that pass through Irish airspace but do not land in Ireland) during September 2012, in comparison to September 2011. Similarly, North Atlantic Communications flights (Europe /North America flights) saw a decrease of 3.8% in September 2012, when compared to September 2011.
There was an average of 1,547 daily flights during September 2012, with the busiest day being 2nd September with 1,695 flights in Irish airspace. Due to the reductions in en-route traffic, total flights in Irish airspace for September have actually decreased by 0.30%, when compared to September 2011.
