Dutch carrier KLM Airlines has introduced its new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft on selected services on its Amsterdam to Dublin route operated by its Cityhopper subsidiary. The Embraer 195-E2 is in a three class 132 seat configuration with special mood lighting, ergonomically designed seats, extra legroom, USB connections and bigger baggage bins.
The first Embraer 195-E2 was PH-NXA msn 19020045 on Saturday 20th November operating KLM933/934 followed by PH-NXB msn19020047 KLM933/934 on Friday 26th November and PH-NXD msn 19020054 KLM933/934 today Saturday 27th November.
The new aircraft will enable KLM Cityhopper to accommodate growing passenger demand without increasing flight frequency and replace existing Boeing 737-700 and Embraer 175/ 190 aircraft as part of KLM’s initiative Fly Responsibly.
Managing Director KLM Cityhopper Warner Rootliep said “Not only is the 195-E2 an economically attractive aircraft, it also fits perfectly within our Fly Responsibly sustainability approach. This will enable KLM to make its own operations and the sector as a whole more sustainable. Now, more than ever before, we’re committed to reducing the impact we have on our surroundings and our ecological footprint. At present, fleet renewal makes the biggest contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions.”
The Embraer 195-E2 burns 9% less fuel per flight and emits 31% less CO2 per passenger than the Embraer 190. The Embraer 195-E2 is also has a noise footprint 48% less than the Embraer 190 powered by Pratt & Whittney PW1921G engines.
KLM Cityhopper has taken delivery of five Embraer 195-E2 aircraft with a further two due for delivery this year, with the remaining 18 being delivered in the years ahead. KLM also has an option on a further 10 195-E2s.
